The Salted Sage: A Boss Mom’s Charcuterie Business
The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it numerous challenges, but it also gave rise to new businesses and opportunities. One such opportunity was seized by Alaina, LV mama and the founder of The Salted Sage. Her Las Vegas-based charcuterie company has quickly become a favorite of the local community. In fact, many of us had the pleasure of feasting on The Salted Sage’s offerings at the Las Vegas Parents Club launch party. The platter and personal boxes were both delicious food, and delicate artwork. The carefully curated meat, cheese, honey, fruit, veggies and flowers were almost too pretty to eat,…but nobody could resist.
Alaina’s business was born out of a passion for creating art with food. After winning second place in a contest on Instagram, she realized that the charcuterie world might be the perfect outlet for her skills. Since then, it has been a fun and rewarding journey filled with challenges that constantly test her creativity.
One of the best things about running this business is that it allows Alaina to teach her son about different foods and show him that work can be creative and fun. As a mother, she also appreciates having something that is completely hers, creating her own schedule and being able to take off the mom-hat to be a boss for a few hours.
The local Las Vegas community has embraced The Salted Sage with open arms. Without the support, the company simply would not exist and Alaina is constantly blown away by the response and love from her hometown.
For anyone starting their own charcuterie company, she advises starting small by serving friends and family before committing to a full-blown business. As with any new venture, there are trials to face and building a successful business takes hard work. It can be discouraging when you’re not where you want to be financially or creatively and definitely overwhelming to make up to twenty five boards in a day! With perseverance, continued education and heart, success can be achievable.
What sets The Salted Sage apart from other companies of its kind, is Alaina’s approach to the art of charcuterie. While she offers the traditional salami and cheese, she presents it in a uniquely creative form. The beauty of this art is that no two boards are the same. Alaina has also forged strong relationships with other catering and charcuterie companies in Las Vegas and like a true community, they refer business to each other regularly.
Looking to the future, Alaina and The Salted Sage hope to continue thriving and growing. She is eager to offer charcuterie workshops where moms or businesses looking for a team-building activity can come together and learn to create their own boards. Perhaps one day, she will even have a storefront or mobile cart to serve the community in a different way. Until then, The Salted Sage is here for all your grazing needs.
