Splash Pads and Essentials to Beat the Heat
Summer in Las Vegas and Henderson can be brutal with temperatures often soaring above 100°F. It can be tough to find ways to beat the heat while still enjoying some outdoor activities. However, there is one option that is fun and completely free: splash pads!
Splash pads are a great way to cool down and have some fun with your kids without having to go to a water park. They are essentially playgrounds, open to the public with sprinkler features that spray water from all directions, creating an interactive and exciting environment for the kiddos (and parents).
Most of the LV splash pads open in the first week of May and operate from 8 am to 10 pm. It is important to note that the water used in these facilities is recycled. Caution your little ones not to drink the water!
For a safe and enjoyable experience, make sure to bring these essential items with you when visiting splash pads. Here are some things that I highly recommend packing:
Drinking water - It is essential to stay hydrated during the hot summer months. It is best to bring your own water bottles to ensure that you and your kids have enough to drink.
Snacks - Playing in the water is sure to work up an appetite. Pack some snacks like fruit, sandwiches, or granola bars to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
Sunscreen - The hot Las Vegas sun can be harsh on the skin. Protect yourself and your children by applying sunscreen before heading out to the splash pad.
Hats/Sun glasses - Hats and sunglasses will provide additional protection from the sun's rays.
Water shoes with grip on the bottom - Splash pads can be slippery, so water shoes with a good grip on the bottom will help prevent any slips or falls.
Swim diapers - For parents with babies or toddlers, swim diapers are a must-have to avoid any accidents.
Towel - A towel is essential to dry off after playing in the water.
Change of clothes - Changing out of wet clothes after playing in the splash pad will make the ride home more comfortable.
Waterproof bag - A waterproof bag, like the large blue Ikea bag, is perfect to throw all the wet items in and keep your car or stroller dry.
